  • Mr. Cricket knocks competition for six with Roland DG TrueVIS SG-300 investment

    Roland Mr Cricket 1 LFR

Sporting equipment supplier, Mr. Cricket has brought lucrative personalisation services in-house following investment in Roland DG printer/cutter technology, saving more than £10,000 every year. A TrueVIS SG-300 printer/cutter was installed in late 2016 and has streamlined the company's business processes, boosted profit margins, and delivered greater control over the quality and delivery of personalised apparel and equipment.

Merrick Fuller opened the Mr. Cricket store specialising in cricket equipment six years ago in Burwell, near Cambridge, serving local cricket-mad customers as well as supplying personalised sportswear and uniform to a local independent school. Fast-forward to 2016 and business was booming, with a huge increase in the demand of personalised uniform, sportswear, match apparel and cricket kit from more than 100 sports clubs and six local schools.

Mr. Cricket is a veritable Aladdin’s cave of cricketing equipment. It is managed by Merrick, a keen cricketer and Sky Sports Cricket Coach of the Year 2009 and supported by Paul Redfarn ex-England U19 Captain, alongside an additional five members of very knowledgeable staff. The team provides expert help and advice for all cricketers – regardless of age, experience or ability – either face-to-face, over the phone or via its online shop.

    Roland Mr Cricket 2 LFR2

As business grew, the cost of outsourcing personalised printing services soared to approximately £20,000 per annum. Merrick Fuller explains: “Whilst we supplied the kit ourselves, we had to outsource the personalised print services and as the business boomed, we found it increasingly expensive. We also had less control over the quality of the finished products and the turnaround times of orders, so we looked to bring the printing in-house.”

A self-confessed ‘total novice’ when it comes to printers, Merrick met with Grafityp, an approved Roland DG UK dealer, which recommended the TrueVIS SG-300 printer/cutter that offers a massive range of production capabilities at an incredibly attractive price point.

Since its installation Merrick estimates that the printer has already saved the company ‘thousands of pounds’ while enabling the addition of new print services including banners, sponsor boards, branded items and much more to Mr. Cricket's portfolio.

Merrick explains: “We mainly use our Roland machine for printing names, numbers, club badges and logos to personalise sports and school wear and we’ve seen a big uptake on that part of the business. However, we’ve also recently created a cricket scoreboard-style wedding table plan, and printed sponsor-branded wrap-arounds for cricket stumps!

“With our Roland printer, we’ve more opportunity for growth as we are able to offer more services; everything is now under our control and we can confidently meet customers’ needs quickly, whilst guaranteeing the quality of the end-product.”

    Roland Mr Cricket 3 LFR

In terms of challenges faced learning to use the printer/cutter, there have been very few. Those Mr. Cricket has encountered, Merrick puts down to his self-confessed novice with printers’ status: “For us, the challenge has been learning how to use the design software rather than the print software and technical support from the Roland DG team has been very important to us. When we’ve made silly errors, they’ve supported us brilliantly. They’re very accommodating and helpful and you never feel like you’re calling them with daft questions.

“I also went on a Roland DG training course last month, the Intermediate Digital Print Course, which was incredibly useful for us as it’s our first experience using this type of printer. We’ll definitely look at attending further courses at the Roland DG Academy as our confidence grows.”

It’s not just Merrick Fuller’s confidence that is growing though. Following on from the success of the Mr. Cricket business, he has launched the Mr. Hockey website, with a Mr. Custom Clothing site in the offing.

Merrick Fuller concludes: “These new sites have been established thanks to the natural growth of our customer base and their expanding requirements. The additional services that the Roland DG TrueVIS SG-300 printer/cutter has enabled us to offer has been a key part of this success.”

    Nazdar TheIJC 2017 inks LFR

Nazdar Ink Technologies will return to the world's biggest inkjet conference this autumn to present its latest developments and discuss the future of the technology.

While the event is an ideal introduction to the field of inkjet, TheIJC 2017 will also offer an in-depth exploration of trends, technology breakthroughs and the top manufacturers – Nazdar key among them – bringing ideas to fruition.

TheIJC 2017 will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany on October 24th and 25th 2017, with the Nazdar team presenting the market-leading brand's advanced inkjet technology and advising delegates on the right ink for their needs. On Stand J03, Graphtec GB will demonstrate selected products from its wide range of cutting solutions. These comprise examples from the flagship FC8600 and the CE6000 series of roll-fed cutters, the latest FCX2000 series of flatbed machines and the newly renamed F-MARK combined automatic digital die-cutting and sheet-feeding system.

The upgraded FC8600 series of cutters incorporates the latest version 6 of Graphtec’s proprietary ARMS (Automatic Registration Mark Sensing) system and the ISM (Intelligent Scan Mode) function and is supplied with the latest Graphtec Pro Studio software. This is based on the popular FlexiSIGN family of design and production software from SAi for which Graphtec GB is a preferred business partner and distributor in the UK and Ireland. The FC8600 has a maximum cutting speed of 1,485mm/sec to claim ‘fastest in class’ status and a cutting force of 600gf.

The renamed CE6000 PLUS series of cutters is now available with new and enhanced features to enable radically increased levels of productivity. The cutters have a maximum cutting speed of 1,000mm/sec (exclusive to the CE6000 PLUS 120 model) and a cutting force of 300gf (up to 450gf on the CE6000-40 machine). Key features of this economically priced cutter include the Graphtec ARMS facility, tangential emulation and a perforation cutting function. The CE6000 PLUS series is also supplied with Graphtec Pro Studio software.

At SignLink LIVE, Graphtec GB will be donating a CE6000-60ES cutter as a prize in the Golden Ticket Draw at the show.

Noteworthy design features of the latest FCX2000 series of flatbed cutters to be demonstrated include a specially configured cutting head incorporating two tool holders, the first of which holds a knife and the second a creasing tool to enable a dual cutting and creasing function. A USB port enables offline operation and files to be saved and retrieved remotely as well as a barcode function that enables printed barcode and the relevant cutting data to be recalled from memory and cut. The cutters also incorporate the latest version 6 of Graphtec’s ARMS facility.

The renamed F-MARK combined automatic sheet feeder and digital die cutter is based on the popular Graphtec CE6000-40 cutter. The machine is available in a choice of three sizes (920 x 610, 920 x 1,200 and 920 x 1,800mm). There is also the option of either a vacuum suction or electrostatic material hold-down facility, with the former better suited to the processing of heavier and thicker materials and the latter more suitable for lighter-weight media.

The F-Mark cutter can be used for a wide range of print and cut applications, including primarily short-run label production, digital prints and packaging, thus enabling sign and graphics manufacturers and print finishing specialists to diversify into new markets. The extremely compact footprint also enables the machine to be mounted to a work surface as small as 60 x 67cm.

  • Ink freedom: Nazdar's Stephen Woodall looks at trends in graphics market

    Nazdar Stephen Woodall LFR

Following Stephen Woodall's appointment as Global Market Segment Manager for Aqueous & Solvent Digital at Nazdar Ink Technologies earlier this year, he gives his insight into trends in the signage and graphics market. Based in Stockport, Stephen Woodall works closely with regional managers in territories across the globe and Nazdar's UK- and USA-based R&D teams. He says that currently Nazdar is actively working with channel partners who want to specifically target markets and expand their customer network.

“The Nazdar 130 Series inks, our alternative to the Mimaki SS21 inks, have been a very popular addition to our product range, but recently we've also seen greater uptake of Nazdar 203 Series inks, which are a high-quality, more affordable alternative to ECO-SOL MAX 3 inks," he comments. "Like all Nazdar's alternative ink ranges, these two products are a close physical match in terms of performance, adhesion, colour vibrancy and outdoor longevity.

"Over the coming months I expect to see continued stability in the signage and graphics market, with demand remaining strong for exciting new products and greater efficiencies helping businesses to reduce their spend while retaining quality. A growing number of people are finding that a changeover to Nazdar inks is painless and trouble-free with no obvious difference except the cost.

"Everyone is looking for ways to reduce their overheads without reducing their quali-ty, which is not a new development, but we are seeing the impact now in the form of increased interest in our free ink cartridge campaign

"Nazdar has an ongoing programme of supplying an ink cartridge free of charge to graphics, packaging and industrial printers to be trialled in conjunction with their OEM inks. While we've always had good uptake in the UK and USA, at present we're seeing an increased interest from other geographic regions. The campaign offers the opportunity to try out Nazdar inks risk-free, which growing numbers of print businesses seem inclined to do.

"Furthermore, these ink cartridges are provided to each customer by their local resellers who know the market and can provide tailored advice and any support they might need. Customers aren't just receiving a single ink cartridge through the post; they're building a relationship with a fellow local company with whom they can work in the future. This reflects a wider trend of people preferring to invest in local, independent businesses and receiving more personal customer care."

  • AXYZ to demonstrate Trident print finishing system at The Print Show

    AXYZ Trident 6010

On Stand GO9 at the upcoming Print Show, AXYZ International will demonstrate the Trident hybrid CNC routing and knife-cutting print finishing system. This powerful production workhorse combines routing and cutting capabilities in a single machine, thereby obviating the need for large-format graphics and print finishing specialists to invest in two separate machines to carry out these functions.

Trident has been developed to help resolve issues frequently encountered by both sectors and in particular the need to process an ever increasing range of different rigid and flexible media that invariably require a wider, deeper and longer routing/cutting capability. The machine claims to increase output by as much as 50 per cent by comparison with standard CNC routers.

The machine provides a three-pronged processing configuration (routing spindle and oscillating/tangential knife combination) that works efficiently and harmoniously to handle materials that might prove too challenging for traditional CNC routers. Due to this triple-head configuration, it is now possible to process virtually any flexible and/or rigid substrate, including materials as diverse as aluminium and other non-ferrous metals, aluminium composite materials (ACM), acrylic and plastics, foamed and corrugated board, vinyl, cardboard and paper.

Other key design features of Trident include a rigid steel frame construction to better accommodate more vigorous machine operation, an exclusive live vacuum deck that provides a maximum material hold-down capability and an integrated helical rack and pinion drive system. This latter feature ensures more even distribution of the workload and radically reduced machine wear, leading to enhanced routing/cutting precision and ultimately a longer than normal machine life. Trident also incorporates readily interchangeable blade attachments that can be as long as 12mm to enable the processing of harder, heavier and thicker materials.

"The Print Show's features include the Printer's Bazaar and Business Seminar Theatre which will explore the huge variety of options open to printers in the UK today," comments Chris Bailey, Managing Director, QPS.

"We expect to meet plenty of print firms who are looking to add wide-format technology to their existing equipment, either to investigate potential markets or to satisfy an existing requirement.
We're also looking forward to meeting those with existing wide-format capacity and are investigating alternative solutions.

"We travel the UK looking after our customers so we know exactly what advice to give, and are experts in the products we sell and the services we provide."

The Print Show tweeted that it was 'delighted to confirm that @QPSWideFormat will be at #theprintshow this year', with the organiser's Sales Manager Adam Every adding that it was 'fantastic news'.

QPS is a one-stop-shop for wide-format print providers, offering the full range of high-performance Nazdar digital inks, the Longier UV printer range, other new and refurbished wide-format printers, display materials and consumables, including specialist products.

It is also a renowned name in service and support, retaining loyal customers across the UK who rely on QPS's expertise in installing new print hardware and inks, maintaining systems and undertaking repairs when needed.

This reflects 'The Print Show is Great Britain' slogan; the QPS team travels across the country to care for its new and existing customers, delivering unrivalled support. In addition, QPS is a leading supplier of Nazdar ink – much of which is manufactured in the UK. For more information on Nazdar and its comprehensive range of ink solutions, please visit www.nazdar.com.

  • New 203 Series inkjet ink from Nazdar designed for longevity

    Nazdar 203 Series inks LFR

Nazdar Ink Technologies has released a new set of solvent inkjet inks, developed for long-lasting, high-quality output from Roland wide-format printers.

Promoted at this year's FESPA show, Nazdar 203 Series inks are formulated as direct replacements for Roland Eco Max 3 original inks, but at a lower price point. They are accurately colour-matched to OEM inks in CMYK plus Light Cyan, Light Magenta and Light Black, and can be used in conjunction with Roland Eco Max 3 white and metallic inks.

In addition to the colour vibrancy provided as standard with Nazdar inks – which are manufactured in the UK and USA – the new low-odour Series 203 inks offer superior performance on outdoor graphics and are resistant to UV degradation and colour fade. The range is ideal for commonly used graphics substrates including banner material, flexible and pressure-sensitive vinyl, blue back paper and backed mesh, delivering consistent and reliable print performance even on high-speed printers.

"We promoted the new inks at FESPA in Hamburg this spring and we're delighted to now roll them out to wide-format print businesses across the UK," says Stephen Woodall, Global Market Segment Manager for Aqueous & Solvent Digital. "The high impact, high intensity colours offered by the new Nazdar 203 Series inks are equivalent to the OEM ink set but without the high price tag.

"Nazdar inks are formulated to match specific OEM inks, so print businesses can be assured that a quick ink changeover is all that's required to save them money without losing quality. The only difference their customers will see is lower prices."

Thanks to compatibility with both the ink shades and with all Roland printers engineered to Roland Eco Max 3 inks, the new Nazdar 203 Series cartridges can be installed simply when the old OEM inks run out, either singly or as a full set, without the need for custom profiles in most situations.

The new inks – available in 500ml cartridges and 1 litre bottles – are manufactured to ISO9001 standards and meet all the regulatory targets achieved by Eco Max 3 OEM inks.

    Nazdar Rich Dunklee

As any good business owner knows, there are two basic ways to make your business more profitable: adjust pricing for higher margins, or lower your costs. Alternative inks can help with the latter, provided the ink that you select meets your company's needs and goals.

  • New inkjet ink from Nazdar Ink Technologies offers market-leading adhesion

    Nazdar 730 Series inks LFR

Nazdar Ink Technologies has released the 730 Series, a flexible UV inkjet ink with market-leading adhesion on a wide range of flexible and rigid substrates.

Thanks to its exceptional levels of flexibility and durability on a wide range of substrates, Nazdar 730 Series is ideal for both outdoor and indoor applications such as banners, window graphics, pressure-sensitive vinyl, POP displays, backlit acrylic signage and especially substrates that require router, knife- or die-cutting, thanks to its superior edge-chipping resistance properties.

For exterior uses, Nazdar 730 Series offers proven long-term performance against the effects of UV degradation and colour fade, with consistent colour density values and high-intensity colours.

Like all Nazdar formulations, the 730 Series provides quality equal or superior to OEM inks at a lower price point, with the CMYK, Lc, Lm, white and clear colour set available in 1 litre, 5 litre and 8 litre containers.

Nazdar 730 Series is designed and packaged for use in a wide variety of printer models.

It is suitable for acrylics, Lexan, reinforced vinyl banner, pressure-sensitive vinyl, window cling, styrene, Sintra, rigid polyethylene, fluted polypropylene, foam board, polycarbonate, Teslin synthetic paper and Dibond – demonstrating the manufacturer's message that there’s a Nazdar ink that’s right for every job.

"The new Nazdar 730 Series ink features outstanding adhesion to a wide range of substrates, including flexible materials and acrylics of all grades and qualities," says Rich Dunklee, Global Market Segment Manager – UV Inkjet Inks Nazdar Ink Technologies.

"It's just one of our inks specially formulated to make sure signage and display businesses produce the highest quality output without the high overheads of OEM products."

  • More graphics companies prioritising efficiency when switching inks

Nazdar 130 Cyan 2 liter bag LFR

Quality Print Services (QPS) has seen an increase in sales of its most easy-to-use alternative inks, suggesting a trend of UK sign and graphics companies looking to improve workflow efficiencies in the print room.

In particular, Chris Bailey, Director of QPS, says he has experienced a surge in print businesses choosing Nazdar 705 series ink, developed as a direct replacement for the HP FB 250 series inks for HP FB500/700 printer platforms. As it is a plug-and-play system, a new Nazdar 705 ink box is simply fitted directly behind an empty OEM box quickly and easily, with no requirement to flush or re-profile the RIP software and therefore no ink is wasted.

The Nazdar 705 series ink also offers excellent durability: its resistance to the effects of UV degradation and fading make it ideal for long-term outdoor use and its superior adhesion helps to resist edge chipping and peeling on both flexible and rigid materials, including challenging substrates such as fluted polypropylene and composites.

Nazdar 702 series ink, formulated as a direct replacement for Océ IJC256 series inks used on Océ Arizona printer platforms, and Nazdar 130 series ink, a true colour-match for the original Mimaki SS21 ink set, are also proving popular. Nazdar 130 is low-odour and is available in 2 litre bulk bags, compatible with the Mimaki Bulk Ink System, for even greater cost- and time-savings and efficiency. Both offer intense colours and excellent resistance to damage on printed output, even for long-term exterior applications.

"Across the sign and graphics industry we're seeing an increase in customers looking for products and equipment that is easy to use, both on a day-to-day basis and when they are first installed," says Chris Bailey.

"Margins are tighter than ever and downtime is not something print businesses can afford. Our plug-and-play alternative inks are fitted in seconds when needed – and with many formulations available in bulk options, operators can spend even less time preparing to run printers."

Bailey adds: "Our alternative inks are developed by Nazdar for specific printing systems to ensure equal or better quality, reliability, colour intensity and durability than OEM inks, but at a lower price point. It is no longer acceptable for reduced costs to be associated with reduced quality and printer reliability."

Furthermore, Nazdar inks are fully supported in the field by QPS's renowned team of engineers, so on rare occasions when customers encounter a problem QPS ensures they are back up and running with as little downtime as possible.

"Customers are demanding their ink and equipment service choices tick every one of their boxes, which Nazdar inks from QPS do," says Chris Bailey.

  • QPS celebrates five years of end-to-end ink cartridge recycling scheme

    QPS plastic granules LFR

At a time when recycling is making headlines, Quality Print Services (QPS) is celebrating five years since the launch of its cartridge recycling scheme.

QPS introduced the free programme for its customers in 2011 – long before the 5p carrier bag charge was introduced and campaigns began to call for coffee shop chains to recycle their cups.

The end-to-end cartridge recycling programme was developed in partnership with ink brand Nazdar to minimise the signage and graphics industry's generation of landfill waste and its environmental effects. QPS began collecting empties when delivering new ones or while visiting customers as part of its renowned printer service support.

To further reduce road miles, the recycling process is kept local to QPS's HQ in Burscough, Lancashire. Any remaining ink goes to a nearby solvent recovery centre while separated cartridge components are sent to a reprocessing plant in the north of the county, where they are ground down and reprocessed into clean chips for resale to UK plastics manufacturers.

In the past twelve months alone, QPS has collected around 3.5 tonnes of plastic cartridges and saved them from going to landfill.

As well as reducing their environmental impact, this means QPS's customers don't have to worry about disposing hazardous materials or finding space to store their empty cartridges as they build up.

"Five years after launching our ink cartridge recycling programme we remain one of the only suppliers to offer this service to our customers," says Chris Bailey, Director, QPS.

"More and more print buyers are demanding environmental action from their print providers and we can offer help in this area free of charge. What's more, our customers who sign up for the recycling programme will receive certification of their involvement, which can help support an application for ISO 14001."

He adds: "Our industry creates a vast amount of waste, far too much of which ends up in landfill. It's up to all of us to help reduce that, but we make it as easy as possible for our customers."

QPS also champions British business – the majority of the Nazdar wide-format ink it sells is made in the UK – so is proud to contribute to the British circular economy by providing recycled plastic chips for re-manufacturing into new products.

All QPS customers who take regular deliveries of Nazdar ink cartridges are eligible for the programme. For more information about the campaign or QPS's large-format print products and services, please email sales@qualityprintservices.com or call + 44(0)1704 897575.

  • Nazdar collaborates with VFP Ink Technologies to bring digital inks to French market

    Nazdar VFP LFR

Nazdar has collaborated with French screen ink manufacturer VFP Ink Technologies to supply a co-branded range of digital ink products to print businesses in France.

As a subsidiary of Tripette & Renaud Group, established in 1836, VFP's core business is manufacturing decorative and functional screen inks for industrial applications, such as bank cards, adhesive labels and printed electronics. In 2015, it reported turnover of €25m (around £20m) and employed 160 people, covering the whole French market.

In addition, VFP's products for laminated plastic cards are sold in the USA by Nazdar, through an exclusive partnership agreed four years ago. A collaboration between the two companies in France therefore happened naturally, according to VFP Sales Director, Sébastien Petit.

"When we learnt that Nazdar was looking for partners to develop its digital inks market share in France, it was for us a good opportunity to bring an added value to our existing offer to our customers," he explains.

The co-branded products are manufactured by Nazdar and sold under the recognised VFP Ink Technologies name in order to reach customers in France as quickly and smoothly as possible.

"The partnership was very important for us because the market in France is aware that VFP Ink Technologies does not produce digital inks, yet Nazdar is well known in that industry – we could not start with a better digital inks partner than Nazdar," Sébastien Petit says.

"Nazdar provides high-quality products at a very competitive price level – they really are the best alternatives to OEM on the market – which of course is beneficial for our customers, who want to save money without the quality of their work being affected."

He adds: "As many of our customers are equipped with Mimaki and/or Roland printers, we decided to focus on providing Nazdar plug-and-play solutions specifically developed for those printers."

VFP therefore supplies Nazdar alternatives to ECO MAX, ECO MAX2, SS2 and SS21 OEM inks in 440ml cartridges, which can be installed as the original containers run out without the need to recalibrate the machines.

"We're delighted to partner with VFP Ink Technologies," comments James MacDonald, Vice President of Marketing at Nazdar. "VFP Ink Technologies has extensive expertise in the screen inks sector and is incredibly well connected across France and beyond, so can offer great support for new and existing customers. In return our experience in developing advanced digital ink formulations will open up the market for VFP Ink Technologies."

The partnership was officially announced at C!Print in Lyon in January 2016.

  • Nazdar welcomes AGA Color Solutions as partner in the Netherlands

    Nazdar ink group pic LFR

Ink specialist Nazdar has welcomed AGA Color Solutions as a partner in the Netherlands, where it will distribute digital and screen printing inks.

Based in the city of Assen, the roots of AGA Color Solutions go back to the foundation of screen printing business Visprox in 1936, which was later acquired by Kiian. Over the years it evolved into an independent company with a cornerstone in screen printing but expertise in a range of printing processes.

"AGA Color Solutions strives to be a reliable and knowledgeable partner for its customers and believes in building relationships that last with both customers and suppliers. Hit and run is not what we do," says Ifredo Baas, Managing Director, AGA Color Solutions.

"Being an independent and agile company AGA Color Solutions is better suited to service the local customer base and we're delighted to become a Nazdar partner. Nazdar has played an active role in a changing industry and will continue to help shape the industry going forward. It's a company not crippled by its heritage, but instead using it to help its customers to move forward."

He adds: 'The Nazdar company and its products are innovative yet reliable – showing that the two aspects can go together."

Nazdar inks are developed as plug-and-play alternatives to OEM inks, at a lower price point but equal if not superior in quality, reliability and colour gamut. They are designed for specific printing systems, meaning end users can simply replace OEM cartridges with new Nazdar containers as they run out, with the assurance that they will be colour-matched and safe for their machines. Recent releases, for instance, include the Nazdar LWU705 Series UV ink formulated specifically for HP FB500/700 printers.

On the partnership, Ronnie Coogan, Territory Manager – Europe, Nazdar Ink Technologies, comments: "We are delighted to be partnering with AGA in Holland. Identifying resellers that share our ethos of delivering quality products and added value is key to how Nazdar continues to grow.

"AGA's reputation for customer service, technical knowledge and support in screen and digital is second to none. Our partnership will ensure our customers will continue to enjoy the highest standards of product, quality and service in the Netherlands."

AGA Color Solutions has begun the partnership with the addition of Nazdar specialist screen printing inks to its range and has plans to add more product lines, such as digital UV inks, at a later date. Working across the screen and digital printing markets and graphic, industrial and textile applications, Ifredo Baas says 'AGA Color Solutions wants to be the value added partner of choice in all of these segments'.

  • Nazdar inks from QPS meet Impact Sign Solutions's 'mission critical' colour demands

    Nazdar Impact 4 LFR

Impact Sign Solutions says Nazdar 702 Series inks have helped it meet 'mission critical' demands for colour accuracy. The 24-year-old Buckinghamshire-based sign making firm prints signs for small and large businesses, museums, schools, colleges and high-street shops – where advertising for high-end cosmetics and watches has to be precise.

"We create our own colour profiles to ensure our colours are accurate – we perhaps place more importance on this than other businesses – and have found that Nazdar 702 Series inks are certainly compatible with that ethos," says Andy Borrow, Managing Director, Impact Sign Solutions. "Colour is mission critical for us."

Impact Sign Solutions has been running Nazdar 702 Series inks on its Océ Arizona 250GT flatbed wide-format printer for around six months, having had problems with the inks initially installed on the machine, which were from another manufacturer. Research on finding a replacement alternative ink led to Nazdar and its distributor Quality Print Services (QPS) Ltd.

"Nazdar is widely known – people always talk about their products at Sign and Digital UK and so on – and has a very good reputation," says Andy Borrow. "The Nazdar 702 Series has been really good since the switchover and we've had no problems at all. In the future we're definitely planning to move our other printers over to Nazdar digital inks."

However, the Impact Sign Solutions MD is safe in the knowledge that if a problem were to occur with Océ Arizona 250GT, Lancashire-based QPS would provide technical support straight away.

"The QPS engineer who installed the Nazdar inks on the Océ Arizona 250GT was a breath of fresh air: comprehensive and competent, explained everything thoroughly and gave training and tips to the team as well as dealing with the machine itself," he says.

Chris Bailey, Managing Director, comments: "Nazdar inks are specially formulated to provide a top-quality, reliable, colour-matched formula for specific printing systems at a lower price point than the OEM product. The Nazdar 702 Series inkset for Océ Arizona printer platforms is no exception and therefore an ideal choice for businesses like Impact Sign Solutions that have customers who demand vivid, true-to-life colours and densities.

"We certainly don't anticipate any issues but our UK support team is available should Impact Sign Solutions ever need it."

Andy Borrow concludes: "Honestly, it's a relief to find a team like QPS that both supplies the excellent Nazdar inks we need and supports the machine – it's the way business should be."

Nazdar will be showcasing the Nazdar 702 Series inkset alongside Nazdar 703 Series and Nazdar 705 Series inks – all designed for the UV plug-and-play inkjet market – at FESPA Digital 2016 from March 8th to 12th.

"Our new UV inkjet inks are designed to be direct replacements for the OEM inks, while offering significant savings to the end user," explains Rich Dunklee, Nazdar's Global Market Segment Manager for UV Digital Inkjet Inks. "Impact Sign Solutions has discovered the benefits of using Nazdar 702 Series inks on its Océ Arizona 250GT: reliability, colour accuracy and, thanks to QPS's renowned customer service and technical expertise, a complete support package."

QPS will also demonstrate a range of Nazdar inks on stand L10 at Sign and Digital UK 2016 from April 19th to 21st 2016.

  • Mimaki JV300 fits the bill for Dublin-based IQ Group

    Hybrid Mimaki IQ LFR

Dublin-based IQ Group recently added a Mimaki JV300-160 and CG-160FXII to its portfolio of printing hardware through authorised Mimaki reseller, Reprocentre, and the company is 'delighted' with the investment.

The IQ Group is a vibrant company in every sense of the word. From the vivid and high quality print it produces, the positive energy and growth it has experienced since it formed 5 years ago, and even through to the dynamic team and bright and quirky premises, it’s a colourful company. So it’s not surprising that, when they decided to expand their hardware portfolio, the Mimaki JV300-160 solvent printer was befitting of a place in the company's print room.

“Quality is key to IQ,” explains one of the company’s Directors, Gary Upton. “The Mimaki JV300 provides great print quality and continuity of colour every time, regardless of changes in temperature, giving us the ability to colour match perfectly. We’re a reactive company; we offer a fast turnaround for our customers and the JV300 fits right in here giving us speed and flexibility. We’ve been really impressed.”

IQ, or Image Quest as it was formally known, originally started out as a print management service and signage company, but quickly evolved to incorporate in-house print production to make them more cost effective, offer faster turnaround times and give their customers more security and confidentiality. “We offer the complete workflow in-house,” continues Upton. “We have a creative design studio, a highly-productive print department and a team of installation experts, so we can guarantee a premium service and products every time. We do a vast amount of contract work and we need to be consistent on every level, including superior print output, which is exactly what we get with the JV300.”

IQ made the investment in the Mimaki JV300 through authorised Mimaki reseller Reprocentre. Reprocentre's Sales Director Eoin Honan explains: “We’ve provided a variety of hardware and materials for IQ over the last few years, but when they came to us looking for something to increase their productivity without compromising on quality or colour gamut we recommended the Mimaki JV300 solvent printer. It is super-fast and the SS21 solvent inks mean beautiful bright blocks of colour aren’t an issue. We also supplied a Mimaki bulk-ink system (MBIS) with the JV300 which gives IQ higher production levels by running the printer overnight and unattended on long runs.”

Further information about IQ Group is available via its website www.iqgroup.ie.

Further information about Reprocentre and its products and services can be found at www.reprocentre.ie.

  • Mimaki Vehicle Wrap Lab puts motorsport students in pole position

    Hybrid Mimaki wrap LFR

Hybrid Services Ltd. has teamed up with the UK’s foremost motorsport engineering education establishment, Oxford Brookes University, in a partnership set to take wide format print to a whole new audience. As part of its increasing commitment to supporting young people in print, Hybrid has created the Mimaki Vehicle Wrap Lab, supplying a Mimaki wide format printer, cutting plotter and software package to the University in a relationship intended to provide hands-on experience, expert tuition and a commercial understanding of vehicle wrapping, branding and liveries to undergraduate race engineers set for high profile roles in Formula 1 and other avenues in professional motorsport.

Also involved in the project are material supplier Metamark and expert vehicle wrapper Jason Price, whose employment within the Corbeau Seats group allows him opportunity to provide design, wrapping and installation services for a vast array of clients within the motorsport industry.

“The project is all about making these highly talented engineering undergraduates better aware of some of the commercial requirements within motorsport,” says National Sales Manager for Sign & Graphics at Hybrid, John de la Roche. “However you look at it, motorsport rotates around sponsorship and the importance of getting a professional looking message on and around the cars cannot be underestimated. Mimaki’s range of wide format printing solutions already has a strong presence in vehicle wrapping at all levels – and current F1 teams have been investing in their own Mimaki systems for years but we were keen to provide an opportunity at an early stage of these people’s careers.”

The motorsport engineering students at Oxford Brookes take part in the global Formula Student series of races. These cars mimic scaled down, single seater F1 models – so still boast highly developed aero packages, telemetry systems and cutting edge mechanical engineering.

“It’s the job of the vehicle wrapper to make the car look fast but, additionally, vehicle graphics provide corporate identity making the vehicle look professional,” says Price. “It’s unusual to give this responsibility to the engineers, but in this instance, they’re getting first-hand experience of what’s involved, so it should stay with them throughout their careers.

“There are also sound technical benefits to wrapping a car rather than painting it,” Price continues. “The weight savings are huge so it’s an easy sell on purely technical grounds – let alone the benefits of how the team presents itself.”

Metamark is supplying a range of media to the project along with providing expert advice on additional opportunities for display graphics. “The new MD-X Cylinder cast film is ideal for the students to be using on the cars,” says Samantha Daulton, regional sales manager for Metamark “We’ve also provided our RU500 LayFlat rollup material for use within the Mimaki Vehicle Wrap Lab along with wallpaper and digital frost etched window film.”

Daulton has spent time at Oxford Brookes guiding technicians within the department on best practice with the Metamark product range and Head of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at the University.

Professor Gareth Neighbour, stresses the importance of the mentoring provided by the various partners: “We’re immensely proud of the incredibly high standards of technical tuition on offer to our students, but we’re not afraid to admit that we’re completely new to wide format printing and all that goes with it,” confirms Neighbour. “The extensive training and support from Hybrid and its partners has very swiftly allowed our teaching staff and technicians to get to grips with the technology and offer an exciting new component to our degree and masters courses.”

“We pride ourselves in having the highest percentage of alumni in Formula 1 of all the universities and the development of the Mimaki Vehicle Wrap Lab has added yet another string to our students’ bows, being of great interest at the recent Autosport International show,” says Neighbour.

Oxford Brookes’ impressive facility bears more than a passing resemblance to the HQ of a motorsport team with a vast array of tooling, engineering equipment and testing instruments alongside memorabilia and former race cars and the Mimaki Vehicle Wrap Lab’s central position enables passers-by to see the printing process in operation.

“Bringing vehicle wrapping and branding into the heart of the Technology Centre really helps to remind the students of the importance of how they present themselves and their teams,” concludes Brian Sims –  Oxford Brookes MEMS Advisory Board Member, Former Marketing Director of the  Benetton F1 Team and Founder and Honorary Life Member of the prestigious Motorsport Industry Association “Having been involved in this project from the outset, I’m delighted to see how the students are already embracing it and using it to their benefit.”

The Mimaki Vehicle Wrap Lab is located at the University’s Wheatley Campus from where Oxford Brookes Racing competes in the global Formula Student series and has over 4,000 followers on its Facebook page. The university offers undergraduate and masters degree courses in motorsport engineering, automotive engineering and motorsport technology along with many others within its Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences – further information of which can be found by visiting www.mems.brookes.ac.uk.

  • Thermadent reaps benefits of digitised workflow thanks to Objet30 OrthoDesk 3D printer from SMG3D

    SMG Thermadent technician LFR

“Going digital is surely the only route for affordable dental technology, and I would say it’s a must for all forward-thinking dental practitioners.”

Merseyside-based Thermadent Ltd., an orthodontic dental laboratory company, recently purchased an Objet30 OrthoDesk 3D printer to help digitise its workflow. The printer was installed by SMG3D – the 3D print division of the Stanford Marsh Group – and Thermadent has reaped the numerous benefits of its newly-digitised work flow.

Since February 2014, NHS Dental Services has been requesting that pre-treatment and post-treatment study models are submitted digitally. This led Thermadent to look at investing in a digital scanner to convert bulky and difficult-to-store plaster study models to 3D digital models.

Matthew Garnett, owner and Managing Director of Thermadent, explains: “I studied the 3D print market and plumped for an Objet30 OrthoDesk 3D printer, which we sourced from SMG3D. Since installation, the printer has transformed our production processes.”

“Using 3D digital study models means there’s no longer any need to store the physical study models − and we no longer need to worry about plaster model disposal. What’s more, thanks to new GDC regulations, every orthodontic practice now has to keep a record of each patient’s tooth movement indefinitely. To store each patient’s plaster study models would quickly become impossible. With digital study models all you need is a safe, secure place to store the CDs that contain the files.”

Matthew also explains that using the printer in-house has reduced lead times significantly: “The Objet30 has been specifically designed for small to medium-sized orthodontic dental labs like Thermadent. It helps us digitise our workflow from digital file to model, accelerate our production times and increase production capacity cleanly and efficiently.”

He continues: “With our digital workflow, we are able to convert chairside oral scans into precisely accurate 3D printed models, quickly. Additionally – thanks to the precise tolerances and extreme accuracy provided by the printer – our aligners are more accurate and provide a much better fit.

“Going digital is surely the only route for affordable dental technology, and I would say it’s a must for all forward-thinking dental practitioners.

“The team at SMG3D helped me decide which 3D printer was best for my needs thanks to their informed and impartial advice. Their help with installation and integration of the new machine with my existing equipment meant I could get on with the training they provided straight away, which reduced set-up time for the new Objet30 to an absolute minimum. They provided a first-class service all round.”

Adrian Painter, director of Stanford Marsh Group, comments: “Dental professionals such as Thermadent are already reaping the considerable benefits of 3D Print in terms of increased productivity, reduced costs and improved patient experience. We’re delighted to be able to supply the relevant 3D print solutions and offer the support to enable them to seamlessly transition to a digitised workflow.”

    SMG Thermadent Objet30DP LFR

SMG3D’s knowledge and experience of 3D Print is extensive as it has supplied 3D print technology into engineering environments for rapid prototyping and digital manufacturing applications for several years; Representatives from the company look forward to discussing the potential of introducing 3D Print into their workflow process with visitors at the upcoming Dental Technology Show (Birmingham NEC, 22nd- 23rd April 2016).

    QPS Nazdar inks LFR

Quality Print Services (QPS) has agreed its largest ever stand for Sign and Digital UK, taking place from April 19th to 21st 2016.

"We've already booked our stand space for Sign UK 2016: an eye-watering 72sqm," says Chris Bailey, Managing Director of QPS. "We normally reserve a large space near to the show's main entrance but this time we wanted to make sure we had even more room to showcase the wealth of equipment we supply, in particular the Longier flatbed printer range."

QPS, in collaboration with Longier UK Ltd, distributes the Longier wide-format printer brand. It installed its first Longier Hunter FP3750 LED flatbed printer this July, at WAE Group's Leeds print room.
